The Pet Show

Dear Whitney,

Your assumption that I would be even more in the dark about a great new book than you are, that was correct.  The good news is, I'm totally sold on Gaston now!  I can't wait to get my paws on it.  (hehehe)

Speaking of paws… you know how in the world of picture books and kids TV they are often depicting a large group of kids all coming together to have a pet show?  When does that actually happen in real life though?  I mean the logistics are kind of daunting.  Not all kids can be around all animals (allergies) not all animals play well with children (excited dogs) not all animals play well with each other (dogs vs cats vs goldfish).  The whole idea is kind of absurd when you really break it down.  Who would be crazy enough to actually host one of those things???

That would be me.

And I don't regret it for one minute!  We did set some ground rules.  All pets needed to be in a carrier or on a leash.  The kids had to promise to take turns and respect each others turns.  And nobody was allowed to touch another persons animal without permission.  They followed the rules pretty well.

As  for entrants?  We had 6 dogs (all types), 1 fluffy cat, 1 hamster, & 2 horses.  The kids who couldn't bring a live pet brought a picture or shared a story about a pet they have had.  It was so much fun!!!  I would certainly do this again sometime.

What about you?  Have you ever been involved in an actual real life pet show?  I would love to hear about it if you have!

Looking for a fun picture book to go along with today's post?  Pick up a copy of Ezra Jack Keats Pet Show!  It's quite wonderful.
