Can't find a book? There's an app for that!

So, I saw these apps awhile ago, but I wasn't sure if they were really worth it.  Then Robyn got all organized and I was like, 'Hmmm, that must be nice. Perhaps I should do something too.'

Now, I'm not sure I have it in me to rainbow all my books (mostly because Lilac has hoarded quite a few of the books and I don't want to get in trouble if I mess with HER books in hopes of adding them to the organization.)

Oh, and also I'm kind of lazy….that's another reason I'm hesitant to jump into a giant book organizing-fest.  BUT-- I think I could do the app thing. That would at least help me know what books I already own, so I would stop buying duplicate copies of things…it is kind of a problem.

So, here's the scoop.  I've been checking out 2 apps.  They both allow you to scan the ISBN/bar code of a book and then catalog, etc.

First, there's Book Crawler. I downloaded the free version and so far I like it. Books are easy to scan. I can rate them, mark if I own them, and there's a place to list what collection they are in-- which I guess I could use to list where in my house it's located.

This one also has all kinds of hooks ups to goodreads, Facebook, twitter and it can use your location to check your library or something, I don't really know….lots of fancy stuff.  I'm not sure what the free version limitations are, but the full version costs just $1.99. Not bad if I decide I love it.

Next I found Book Buddy so I also downloaded the free version of this.  It's got the same scanning deal which is nice.  There were a few books already entered in which I found odd-- since I don't own them or want them cataloged so I just deleted those ones.  This app then allows you to file the books, say rate them, mark if you loaned it to a friend, etc.
So far this one seems a bit less user friendly, but I haven't really done much yet. You can export the books or something-- maybe some more tech savvy should be explaining this!! Anyway, the free version has a 50 book limit! GAH! That's nothing!! And then the full version costs $4.99…so…there's a chance this app and all it's data may be leaving my phone. We'll see. And if either proves to actually be helpful, I'll let you know.
