Books for Big Brothers and Sisters

Well me oh my, hello July!  Big month around here, it's baby month at Robyn's house!!  Guess who's excited!  I am! And, Robyn-- obviously!! She's excited because she's really pregnant and it's July!

But, I'm thinking of someone else who's excited, a smaller person...who is about to become a big sister... it's Kitten of course!! And I think I heard that Kitten would be especially happy to have a baby sister!!

However, Robyn is one of those crazy people and she doesn't know if the baby is a boy or a girl yet?! (I'll get to that later.)  So, I've been wondering about little Kitten and how she might feel if she's suddenly surprised with a baby brother.  Maybe this book will help...
Penny Loves Pink is about a little girl who LIVES pink. So when Mom and dad drop the news of a baby brother Penny is mortified! Boys mean blue, not pink!! But, imagine Penny's delight when she goes to meet her brother and swaddled in a blanket of blue she sees an adorable pink little face looking back at her!

Now then, I can't leave out Snoopy and Bibs-- I found a big brother sort of book that might be good if they think they're too cool for a new baby. (This just sounds like a boy-ish type attitude to me...I really have no clue.) It's called Henry's Baby.
In the book we obviously meet Henry.  He wants to be part of the cool group at school. All the boys in the group have their thing-- either smarts, or muscles, or speed, or cool moves. All Henry's got is a baby brother.
And just when Henry starts to fit in with the guys, the baby ends up smack dab in the middle of things...but guess what! Having a baby brother is pretty cool after all! (While I don't love the clique-ish part of this book, I do love the fact that the in crowd is dotting over a baby. That's pretty cute!)

Of course there are bunches of other new baby sort of books too! Maybe one day we'll have one of our big lists of them. For now, here are a few more we like:
Hello in There!: A Big Sister's Book of Waiting by Jo Witek & Christine Roussy (seen here.)
One Special Day by Lola M. Shaefer & Jessica Meserve (here's that one.)
There's Going to Be a Baby by John Burningham & Helen Oxenbury (seen here.)
Arthur and the Baby by Marc Brown (there seem to be a couple of versions.)
I Wanna New Room by Karen Kaufman Orloff & David Catrow (room sharing fun, posted here.)
The Other Dog by Madeline L'Engle (its the dog's perspective on a new baby.)

It's almost the 4th of July (Independence Day here in the US) so we want to wish everyone a Happy 4th!! Because of the holiday we're just gonna go ahead and take the rest of the week off, but we'll be back with new posts next week!  Happy reading everyone!!

PS- Remember I said I'd get back to the not finding out the gender?  I honestly considered doing a whole post on this...I have got to know where the majority stands!  Do you find out or not?

Obviously, I happen to stand pretty immovably on the 'find out' side. It's a surprise whenever you find out, be it at the ultrasound or on the delivery day--and aren't there enough surprises on that day...knowing what to expect at least in one area is nice I think! (How obvious is it that I am not a fan of the unknown?)  Plus it makes the name figuring less work...lots of good reasons to know.  Don't you think?
