SO... I bought a set of metallic acrylic paint.
Step One: Dry your acorns and glue on the caps (click here for details).
Step Two: Paint acorns with a primer coat of paint. I used a lovely gold metallic which also happened to be the color I wanted all the caps to remain.
Step Three: Paint the acorn nuts. We used five different metallic colors. This was the point in which my kids started to help out. They each painted a set of five for themselves. I didn't worry about them painting perfectly- paint got on the caps here and there. BUT STILL the ornaments look lovely.
Step four: Drill a small hole into the top of each acorn and hot glue a loop of string or ribbon into the hole.
Step five: Hang your beautiful ornaments from your Christmas tree.
My tree isn't up yet, so I took them outside to get a shot of their holiday spender.
I love love love them! Can't wait to hang them from our actual Christmas tree, but that'll be after Thanksgiving.
