The Works

Here's a very important question...well, relatively speaking... how do you feel about anthologies?  You know, one big book combining the complete works of a certain author or all the stories involving a certain character?

I'm asking because I don't know how I feel about them. On the one hand, its a big bunch of stories all in one place which is cool, but I just don't know because for me there's some thing about a collection of separate and treasured books. You know, having each story on it's own.  You really can't beat that can you?

Having said that, here are two anthologies we've been enjoying this summer. See, I told  you I can't make up my mind on these things.

George and Martha: The Complete Stories of Two Best Friends Have you read any of George and Martha's stories?  So great! They are like the Frog and Toad of the hippo world, if that makes any sense.  The stories are short, sweet, silly and just plain fun to read! Plus the copy we got from our library had all these thoughts and tributes to James Marshall by other famous authors and  illustrators. Pretty cool.

Beatrix Potter The Complete Tales I have loved Beatrix Potter forever! And, while I am totally smitten by her tiny books on their own (I wouldn't dream of changing those) we found a copy of the complete tales while we were staying at my parents this summer. (I'm pretty sure it came from Costco.) Lilac and I quite enjoyed treating it as a chapter book and soaking in one story each night. The properness, the mischief, the animals dressed in clothes-- love it!

Anyway, I'd really love to hear your opinion. Anthologize? Despise? Eat fries? (Sorry once I get rhyming and all.)
Happy reading!
