The Monster Machine

I am more excited than I possibly know how to explain through type for today's post!  Really!  REALLY!  REALLY EXCITED!  I have the most fantastic book to share with you today!!!

Monster Machine by Nicola L. Robinson (click here to get to the official site of the book)
And when I say share with you, I actually mean share with you!  Because I have a copy of this book (published by Pavilion Children's Books, 2012) to send to one lucky reader courtesy the amazing and fabulous author and illustrator Nicola L Robinson herself!  (side note, you must check out her blog- her artwork is amazing!  If only I could draw like her... oh, a girl can dream, right?)

Okay, I've gotta tell you about this book!

It's about a boy who's father is an inventor.  One day the father creates something beyond incredible... a machine that makes MONSTERS!  I can tell you right now that all three of my children have spend A LOT of time studying this picture of the actual monster machine.  They want to know EXACTLY how it works.  What goes where... what tubes carry what... where things come out-- they are intrigued!  You've gotta click here to get the full effect of this machine.
Then there are the ingredients.  My kids are equally interested in what it actually takes to make a monster.  There's been much talk between all of us about what ingredients would make which kinds of monsters.  And this picture of the loose spider- they LOVE it!
Then there are all of the monsters.  And let me tell you, there are LOTS of monsters.  All different kinds.  There has also been great discussion about which monsters were created from which ingredients combined.  I truly don't remember reading a book that has caused such in depth discussion and debate between all three of my children EVER.
Which is one of the reasons I've enjoyed this book so much.  All three of my kids (6, 4 & 2) have been completely enthralled by it.  They ALL love it.  We've read it at least once a day since I got it two weeks ago.  Between the fanciful story line, the colorful detailed illustrations and those fantastic monsters- what's not to love?
