Hunting Night Crawlers

I'm always extremely impressed by authors who've got the ability to write to wide audience.  I love finding books that appeal to three year-olds and 10 year-olds alike.  Diary of a Worm by Doreen Cronin is one of those books.  (She's also written Diary of a Spider & Diary of a Fly , not to mention Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type those are just a few.)

The book's filled with worm humor that's funny no matter your age!  ... and speaking of 'fishing season' since it's always fishing season at my house the worms have to be on their proverbial toes to escape my kids.

A few nights ago we stayed up late.  We'd irrigated that day creating the perfect conditions for hunting night crawlers.  Everyone was armed with a flashlight and the quickest reflexes they could muster.  When you spot one on the surface as soon as it sees your light it sucks itself back into it's hole quick as a wink... and they are slippery!  You gotta be quick!
While searching we happened upon this great big toad, I have a feeling he was out hunting night crawlers too.

This was one of the most fantastic summer nights I've had in a long time!  It was a blast.  Trouble is now that we have a container of bait in the fridge, Snoop can't stop asking when we're going fishing again.
