Fish! Fish! Fish!

If I were to choose one word to describe my summer so far- that word would be... fishy.

Yep we've definitely have a fishy summer.

To be clear, nothing suspicious has occurred.

My summer has simply been filled with all things fish.  Pretend fish play, virtual fishing, River Monster's with Jeremy Wade, eating fish, buying fish for my mama's pond, fishing in the ditch (which contains zero fish), making plush fish... it's been fishy.

Oh yeah and we've been fishing quite a lot too.

This fish craze is mostly thanks to Snoopy (seen above) he's obsessed with fish.  The kid LOVES fish.  Last fall we spent several days up in Yellowstone (where we did quite a lot of fishing).  While there we came across this gem of a book Trout, Trout, Trout!: A Fish Chant by April Pulley Sayre illustrated by Trip Park.
In this book the author Sayre has created the most wonderful rhythmic text using names of a variety of freshwater fish.  The cadence is wonderful.  Pair that with Park's cartoon caricatures of the fish- it's fantastic!  I read a book like this and I want to be these people.  I want to write like her and I want to draw like him, sigh.  Here I'll show you a few pages... but really you've gotta get a hold of this book for the real experience of reading her text and enjoying those illustrations!

Here you can see I've even gotten into the action.  Look at the size of that bluegill I caught!  And only on my second cast.  :)
