Take a look at The Robot Book..

Oh, a rhyming post title!  You know what that means don't you?  Whitney = excited! (I know, I know, when am I not excited?  But, this one is the new favorite around here, so that's something worth rhyming about I'd say.)

It's The Robot Book and its a new gimmick book in our house.  Rainy (my four year old) is obsessed with this one.  She has claimed ownership and wants to take this book everywhere.  Cuteness (2) loves it as well and attempts to filch it from Rainy whenever possible.  The other night, Rainy was out with Daddy and Cuteness had the book all to herself.  Oh the joy!

Here's why I'm a fan:

1) It's keeps little hands busy. The pages are nice and thick and the gimmicks are secure. They include things like heavy cardboard gears and bolts; some of which are easy to manipulate with one hand, some which work best using both hands.

2) It's simple.  Perfect for preschoolers (even if they aren't totally obsessed with robots.  Mine aren't or weren't before this book.) The book talks about what makes a robot (eyes, mouth, etc. nothing confusing and transformer-ish here.)

3) It's cute.  Really, I know it's about a robot, but he looks so friendly and fun with his happy eyes and grin made from gears.  And, the end of the book has a nice little reminder that it's what's inside that matters.

So, I have to tell you another reason I'm so excited we got this book.  Awhile back I was over at love and lollipops (Georgia has lots of cool, clever ideas. You should really check her out)  and I saw these fantastic robots...

I knew those bots and this book were a match made in project heaven.  I started saving stuff to make robots of our own, but so far my saving hasn't gone so well.  I've got a washer and a small spring. Yep, that's it.  Oh well, at least now we have The Robot Book to enjoy while we search for parts.
